| Dave Thormahlen has been making harps since 1984. Because he handcrafts all the harps himself, only a limited number are produced each year. He consistently uses the finest woods, carefully matching the grain, color and figure so each instrument is a unique work of art. Hand-split spruce or cedar are used for the soundboards, producing a beautiful, warm tone. Thormahlen harps are guaranteed for 5 years to be free of defects in workmanship and materials. Thormahlen Harps are available in your choice of 3 types of strings. Pedal Gut is the same stringing used on pedal harps, and has the firmest tension. Lever Gut (also called "Folk Gut") is a lighter gauge of gut that feels a little softer than Nylon. The tone is brighter than Pedal Gut but not as bright as Nylon. Regardless of the type of harp you order, the bottom octave is always strung with steel-core bass wires, and the highest strings are always nylon. There are now two 36-string harp models from Thormahlen Harps. The original model, that we have been selling since 1996, is called the Swan. The newest model, introduced in 2002, is the Cygnet.
